The Client

Carma Developers is a Canadian land, housing and commercial developer with a portfolio spanning major cities in both Canada and the U.S. The year 2008 marks the company’s 50th year in operation.

The Challenge

Carma decided to replace its existing website with one offering enhanced functionality and improved access to corporate information such as news releases and job postings. The company also wanted to have two versions of the site, distinctly targeting U.S. and Canadian users while allowing for the easy sharing of common information between the two sites. With these goals in mind, Carma opted to incorporate into its new website content-management capabilities that would support these requirements yet would enable easy management of the site by non-IT personnel.

The SiteSystems Solution

Selecting a Sitecore Content Management System and a Microsoft SQL Server 2005 database to support the website, SiteSystems developed a series of architecture templates and front-end layouts addressing all content and expendability requirements. These included the use of the Sitecore RSS module (RSS feeds are automated web feeds) allowing for timely updates of company news; and the development of a secure human-resources module using Sitecore’s built-in AJAX user-interface model (AJAX, or Asynchronous JavaScript And XML, is a web-development technique that helps increase the usability, speed and interactivity of web pages). Carma Developers was so pleased with the solution, all delivered on time and within budget, that the company has since established a service level agreement designating SiteSystems as the website’s ongoing provider of technical support.
